Published in 2007, translated into 36 languages and having sold nearly two million copies, Tim Ferriss’s book «The 4-Hour Work Week» is a true best-seller that won people over with its ability to offer an answer to the dilemma between making money and having free time.
From memory, it is the first book dealing with productivity, and by extension personal development, that I have read. It is also quite interesting to note that in Western culture, becoming more productive (or «better» at being productive) is a means of self-development. Tim Ferriss's approach is unique in that it seeks to make «productivity» and «freedom» go hand in hand. The book's subtitle is moreover explicit: «Work Less, Earn More and Live Better!»

Beyond this title, sensationalist to some, revolutionary to others, the author Tim Ferris offers a genuine reflection on how we can rethink our work. For me, it was an eye-opener, because after reading it, for the first time I questioned the way I work. Not all tasks have the same value; some require attention, others can be delegated, and there is even a category of entirely useless tasks, such as answering certain emails.
Excerpts from «The 4-Hour Work Week»
I suggest you immerse yourself in “The 4-Hour Work Week” through nine quotes by Tim Ferriss, taken from the book.
The right attitude
«If you are unsure of yourself, guess what? The rest of the world is too. Do not overestimate the competition and do not underestimate yourself. You are better than you think.»
«Tomorrow becomes never. Whatever the size of the task, take the first step now!»
«Focus on productivity rather than being busy.»
«If the challenge we face does not frighten us, it is probably not very important.»
«A million dollars in the bank is not the fantasy. The fantasy is the lifestyle of total freedom it is supposed to allow.»
Tim Ferriss's strategy and marketing advice
«Do not follow a model that doesn't work. If the recipe is rubbish, it doesn't matter if you're a good cook.»
«You need to know your strengths and be prepared to delegate.»
«Creating a demand is difficult. Responding to demand is easier. Do not create a product, then look for someone to sell it to. Find a market – define your customers – then find or develop a product for them.»
«Information is useless if it is not applied to something important or if you forget it before you have the opportunity to apply it.»
