It’s the most inspiring story of the weekend. Alex Roca Campillo, a physically disabled athlete at 76%, completed the Barcelona Marathon, on Sunday 19 March, in 5 hours, 50 minutes and 51 seconds.

Aged 32, disabled athlete Alex Roca Campillo is no novice in the sporting arena, and already has to his credit five triathlons and four half-marathons, as well as the Titan Desert mountain bike race in Morocco. This is a particularly gruelling race in which, for 6 days, the participating mountain bikers cover more than 600 km with 6,000 m of elevation gain and sleep in tents.

On their website alexroca91.com, he explains his background: “At the age of six months, I contracted viral herpes encephalitis (herpes encephalitis) which caused cerebral palsy with a physical disability rated at 76 % affecting the left side of my body, which limits my mobility and means I communicate using sign language. I believe that no one can set limits for you; rather, you set your own. Everyone is the master of their own destiny and their own possibilities.”.

Both as a disabled athlete and as a man, Alex Roca Campillo is truly an inspiring person who receives the support of a very large community on social media, as well as from former FC Barcelona footballer Carlos Pujol.
