I really like David Goggins's message, it's a very direct, strong and uncompromising message. I'm suggesting this video, but you can find plenty of others on YouTube. I chose this one because it illustrates his philosophy well and because the beginning made me smile. He talks about people who are primarily interested in recovery even though they haven't even started training seriously. We all know some.
If you don't know David Goggins is an ultra-marathon runner, a former US Navy SEAL commando, speaker and author. He has also held the pull-up world record since 2013, having completed 4,300 pull-ups in 17 hours. He is one of the most inspiring figures I have ever discovered on the web. His message is simple, strong, direct and uncompromising: he champions effort, pushing one's limits and a taste for discomfort. For him, the only possible path is that of difficulty. It is sometimes bordering on caricature, but his determination is truly infectious, so much so that he is considered by some to be the man with the strongest mental fortitude in the world.
For several months I have taken up a almost daily exercise. I allow myself one rest day a week, on Saturday, because I run early on Sunday morning and that allows me to have physical freshness. When I don’t feel like going for a training session, when I have aches and pains or a drop in energy, I think of his speech. I can’t say that it remotivates me, but it forces me to do it.
