Here is a list of 7 habits that are slowing you down and dragging you down, to be eliminated starting today.

Wait for the right moment

Lose the habit of wanting to wait for the right moment quickly. There is no right moment. Waiting for the right moment is just using a baseless excuse to put off until tomorrow what you can start immediately.

«Don't wait: the time will never be «right». Start where you are, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command and better tools will be found as you go along.» — Napoleon Hill

Using your smartphone in bed

Everyone knows it, but no-one does it. The blue light from screens disrupts the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone. To sleep better and earlier, turn off your screens. If when you go to bed you feel like you aren't tired, pick up a book, you'll find fascinating ones on this page.

Saying YES to everything

Knowing how to say “no” is an innate quality, which we lose under the influence of social conventions. Look at children: they can say no for no reason, just because they don’t feel like it. And you can try to reason with them using adult arguments, you won't make them change their minds that way. Learning to say “no” means learning to put your priorities first, and not to be constantly dependent on the wishes of others. Starting today, begin to say “no” and be happy.

To be late

Being late is not inevitable; some people are systematically late. Being late generates stress and disorganisation, and it portrays a bad image of you, that of someone who lacks rigor.

Yet being on time is simple. All you have to do for that is arrive early. If you allow yourself 20 minutes for a journey estimated at 10 minutes, there is very little chance of you being late, and external incidents that you usually use as an excuse will not stop you from being on time.

Being a multitasker

Multitasking is a modern-day fallacy. To get more done, it is better to do one thing at a time. Indeed, it has been shown that multitasking reduces productivity by 40%. Concentrate, start a task and finish it before moving on to the next one. This is the best way to work and to avoid having lots of tasks “in progress”.

Not having a strategy with money

To relieve yourself of money stress, you must set out your budget precisely and plan to save. On the other hand, limit your borrowing as much as possible. If you have any ongoing loans, start by trying to pay off the smallest one quickly, then with the money freed up, increase the repayments on the second, and so on...

If you want to put a real strategy in place with your money, I invite you to read the excellent Rich Dad Poor Dad book by Robert Kiyosaki, which for me is the definitive book on the subject.

Spending hours on the sofa

Have you noticed that this kind of “rest” weekend based on Netflix, junk food and erratic sleep doesn't do you any good at all? You come out of it tired and sluggish. No, the best way to rest is to be active, to do things that clear your mind, to eat healthily and to get a quality night's sleep.

So when you tell yourself I need a rest, remember that these lazy weekends do not allow you to recharge your batteries. If you have nothing planned, at the very least plan for:

to go out for a walk or a run

doing your housework

to prepare your meals

to go outside and clean your car

to do a workout or yoga session

to read

Bad habits are like weeds, useless and stubborn.
